Art In The West: The 1900's

My workshops at MAM have just come of age. Exactly eighteen years ago, I took “Art in the West” to the Museum; it was the first course I had ever created to be taught independently from any course curriculum. When I conceived it, my intention was to approach people and art by providing contents that would encourage them to seek in artworks something more exciting than a mere taste judgement. In essence, the course is still the same, but in practice I believe it’s only getting better. The recipe is simple: to deepen knowledge and to perfect teaching method.

Nin this offering of “Art in the West,” I will focus on the second part: the 1900s. I will be mapping European, American, and Brazilian production between the 1910s and the 1960s. Those who participate in the workshop will leave with a good idea about the aesthetic ideas of the avant-garde movements, of the relationships between artistic movements, and of contemporary art cornerstones. After that, all you have to do is enjoy exhibition on show and keep on learning—as learning is always necessary in these times of imprecision.

The full schedule is at MAM’s website, where you can enroll to the workshop.
