Claudia Andujar at IMS in São Paulo

“A Luta Yanomami” (The Yanomamis Struggle) is the subtitle of Claudia Andujar’s exhibition at Moreira Salles Institute. Displaying photographs from little known series in new copies, this show presents the struggle in the title as the path from Eden to Hell that the Yanomami Native People was forced to take when they were attacked by deforestation, gold mining, militias, and countless other agents who imposed “civilization” to them. Andujar—who lived among the Yanomamis and recorded their sad shift from isolation to cultural annihilation—presents a sharp visual record of facts that unfortunately are not part of past history: they are recurrent today for many other Native Peoples groups. Until April 7.
